Commentary: In Chengdu, Official Silence Only Fuels Public Doubt

Editor’s note: On Tuesday evening, the local government in Chengdu, Sichuan province released its official findings of a joint investigation into the case of Xu Xinrui, a college graduate who was alleged online to have been forcefully sent to a psychiatric hospital for reporting a community official.

The findings came about 12 hours after Caixin Media published a commentary on Tuesday morning, calling on the local government to respond to online concerns as an effort to boost credibility and transparency.
