Artificial intelligence (AI) could hit the global labor market like a “tsunami,” the chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned, saying about 40% of jobs worldwide may be affected — whether through productivity gains, role changes or displacement.

Countries should equip workers with adaptable skills and provide stronger safety nets to survive the labor-market tsunami, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said in Beijing on Wednesday, responding to a Caixin question at a press briefing.
