Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd. (HKEX) officially rolled out the world’s first offshore Chinese government bond futures contract Monday, offering global investors a crucial tool to hedge interest rate risks.

The cash-settled, five-year contract arrives as foreign holdings of Chinese interbank bonds have quadrupled since 2017, reaching about 3.2 trillion yuan ($474 billion) by mid-2026.
