The government of the southwestern province of Sichuan has suspended imports of fresh pork in order to prevent the spread of African swine fever, the government announced on Friday.

The epidemic has spread to 16 provinces including the southwestern municipality of Chongqing and the province of Guizhou, which border Sichuan.
