Japan plans to revise government procurement rules to effectively ban the use of Huawei and ZTE telecom equipment, citing security concerns.

The country's various ministries are set to revise their procurement guidelines next week to prevent leaks of sensitive information and cyberattacks, Yomiuri Shimbun reported Friday.

The Japanese government will not explicitly mention the two companies' names in order to "avoid overly provoking China," but the changes will exclude Huawei and ZTE from contracts, Yomiuri Shimbun said, citing an anonymous source close to the government.
